The first Sunday of each month we shoot an American Trap Association (ATA) registered targets match at 9:00 am-
Participants of this match must be ATA members.*
On the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Saturday & Sundays of the month, the trap shoots are just for fun and all new shooters are welcomed. You will meet more characters and receive more advice than you could ever imagine.
Trapshooting is a game of movement, action and split-second timing. It requires the accuracy and skill to repeatedly aim, fire and break a 4 1/4 inch disc which is hurled through the air at a speed of 41 mph.
Trap is shot from 5 positions (posts) with 5 shots from each post for a total of 25 shots per round. Most shooters use a 12 gauge shotgun; however, any gauge and any type shotgun from an H&R topper to your grandfathers “side-by-side” can be used. Only one round of ammunition is loaded at one time and all actions must remain open until your turn to shoot. Please come join us for fun and fellowship.
What you’ll need:
• eye and ear protection
• 12 gauge, 20 gauge, .410 gauge shotgun, or similar.
• Shotgun shells loaded with # 7 1/2 or smaller lead shot. No steel shot.
• 25 shotgun shells per round.
High brass loads or shot sizes larger than 7 1/2 are not allowed.
* Registered trapshooting is competition that is regulated by the Amateur Trapshooting Association. Tallahassee Rifle & Pistol club holds shoots in accordance with ATA rules. All participants of these shoots (1st Sunday of each month only) must be ATA members. The shooters scores are recorded in the ATA office where all records are kept and yearly averages computed.
